Maverick Barrett Park

Introducing Maverick Barrett Park. Born 5-30-12 at 11:17 AM after a quick and easy labor. 8 pounds, 2 ounces. Mom and baby are doing so well it looks like we'll be going home later today! *cross fingers*

Mav's a sleepy little guy; he gave us four uninterrupted hours of sleep last night, which made the whole night seem almost normal! We may have a snuggler on our hands...he'd much rather cuddle up than eat.

Happy Dad!
Brody and Claire came to visit. Neither would nap before they came, they were so excited (especially Claire, I think she would have stayed all night with us!).
How cute is this: big brother Brody meeting Maverick.
Yo...

Passing the Torch

Brody and I made cookies last night. If he's gonna learn my recipe the right way, we've gotta start young! I think he's got a knack for it, too. When we'd finished mixing the batter (minus one key ingredient), I looked in and asked him if we'd forgotten anything.

Brody looks into the mixer... "Ummmm....CHOCOLATE CHIPS!"

Yep, kiddo. You don't miss a beat!

Night night

I put hair gel in Brody's hair to give him a mohawk, it didn't last long but I thought it was pretty cute!

Reading himself his bedtime books.  He always gets to read a few books before bed.  I sure hope he likes reading like Barry did as a kid, because reading has never been my thing.  It's amazing how sitting down to read books at night can change him from a wild man into "jello boy" ready to be tucked into bed.

One of the perfect moments in life.  Brody and I usually are the ones to rub noses, he thinks it's hilarious.  This night it was daddy's turn.

Rubbing heads.  This is Brody and Daddy's special thing, rubbing heads.

Well still no baby, obviously or you would've heard otherwise.  I'm lucky in that pregnancy is pretty easy on me physically and my limitations are few.  I admit, it's an advantage of being tall and just lucking out (no water retention, etc), so for this I am extremely thankful.  My only gripe is that pregnancy seems to bring out the social awkwardness in everyone around you.  Complete strangers in my office building feel compelled to comment on me being at work still.  I get the strangest comments from coworkers too.  For a shy and quite person that keeps to myself, this is a challenge to say the least!  On Mother's Day in the parking lot, some middle aged man said to me (an obviously pregnant lady), "hi mom".  I was not his mom and he did not have a bluetooth ear piece in to be talking on the phone to explain the comment, he was talking to me.

Some of my recent conversations:

Them: You're still here?!
Me: No, I'm a figment of your imagination.

Them: Did you have the baby yet?
Me: Yes, I had him last night, but I'm so dedicated I decided to come in today.

Them: When are you due?  (asked this week)
Me: Monday
Them: *dead silence, mouth gaping open

Them: Wow, it looks like you've gained 2 inches in the last week! (said this week)
Me: Thanks, I've been working on it.

Then there are the questions from non-work people who are surprised I'm still working, including my doctor.  I'm beginning to wonder, do most people stop working before their due date?  I'm not even due until Monday.

Sneaking a few more life moments in...

Putting together an airplane with Papa on Mother's Day.  Mostly observing in what turned out to be the longest stretch of time he was still for the entire day!

Helping Daddy with pulling the carpet during all of our "operation get the house ready to list projects".  He liked having the "mittens" just like his Daddy.

This one is for my mom to please her 50th plea for me to take a pregnancy photo.  Pretty nice, eh?  A little reminder down the road of what it was like should I have an inclination to go through it all over again.

A reminder of what 38 weeks and pregnant looks like with a 2 year old climbing on you....super fun as you can imagine.

Brody is actually quite good at giving "baby brother" hugs and kisses every night before bed.  With my usual 3 layers of shirts or more he always asks, "open it mommy?" because he wants to see my belly.

I just love those jogging shorts that Omi found!  This is tonight before he got his hair buzzed.

Reading bedtime stories before bed.  The after photo with his nice haircut.

Mother's Day

Barry took this photo of sweet innocent Brody opening up Omi's Mother's Day card for her.  How helpful of him!
Happy Mother's Day to me!  And to all the other great moms out there, including my mom and Barry's mom!  It's been awhile since I've posted because frankly even I admit our family is just a tad busy right now and I haven't had it in me to grab the camera and take photos like I normally do. Mother's Day we finished "operation paint 1/2 our house beige" in the morning.  We had my mom, dad, sister, and GG over for a grilled lunch before making them move around our furniture to help us with a bit of staging.  I took a 90 second nap before Brody woke up from his nap and the rest is all a blur.  Not a bad day overall.

Changes since my last update:
I finished my class on Friday and now start my statistics course.  The good news is that I love statistics and I've already taken a more difficult version of it which expired unfortunately.  This will be my last prerequisite course before applying to nursing school.  I might wait on that though until we know where Barry will be spending his residency 2 years from now.
Barry's been studying for his boards step 1 exam.  He's decided to move the date from May 23 to June.  Even though there will be a baby distraction between now and then, I think the extra time will overall be great to have.
On the home front we decided to get our house ready to list for sale.  I'm not sure if I'm crazy or not being 9 months pregnant with a toddler, a full time job, and online classes plus Barry studying for the most important exam he's ever taken thus far.  Probably, but that's ok.  It's so much fun to scramble to complete a 3 page list of projects around the house (ok, honestly it's really not that fun)!  It's almost like a challenge to see if we can get it all done before the baby arrives.  A race against the clock that we cannot see!  According to my last two doctor appointments he guesses that I'll deliver early and possibly before my next appt (Friday, May 18).  I don't put much stock in this though as I could easily go to my due date and beyond.  I'm just hopeful I make it until May 22, then I'll be ready:)

Now we just need to hurry up and have this baby so I can continue filling the blog with pages and pages of pictures of Brody and baby boy #2 (yet to be officially named).
